Dream. Create. Reveal.
The Inspiring Journey of Patrina Carey and Carey Interior Designs
In the world of interior design, creativity and functionality must exist in perfect harmony. Few entrepreneurs embody this balance with as much passion and perseverance as Patrina Carey, founder of Carey Interior Designs. Her journey—from humble beginnings to leading a thriving design business—is a testament to vision, resilience, and the power of believing in one’s craft.
From Inspiration to Foundation
Patrina’s love for interior design was shaped early on by her family.
“Surrounded by talented women whose homes always looked professionally styled was something I deeply admired,” she recalls. Inspired by their creativity, Patrina began experimenting on her own, designing curtains and bedding in rich royal blue velvet during her early teens.
In 2007, she took a bold leap of faith, developing a business plan and launching Carey’s Visual Designs while pursuing an online associate degree in interior design through Rhodec International. This marked the foundation of what would eventually become a respected design brand.
Navigating Challenges with Resilience
Like most entrepreneurial journeys, Patrina’s path was far from easy. She openly reflects on feeling “scared, uncertain, and a bit lonely” during her early years in business. A turning point came after a chance meeting with a mentor at the International Window Conference Expo. The guidance and encouragement she received there reaffirmed her belief in her talent and gave her renewed confidence to move forward.
Marketing posed another major challenge. As a solo entrepreneur, Patrina found herself wearing every business hat. Recognizing her limitations, she made the strategic decision to outsource marketing so she could focus on what she does best—designing and nurturing client relationships.
Rebranding and Expanding the Vision
The global lockdowns of 2020 became a period of reflection and reinvention. Patrina realized her company name was often mistaken for an eyeglass business, prompting a rebrand to Carey Interior Designs. Along with the new name came a refreshed identity and a defining slogan: “Dream – Create – Reveal.”
The rebrand marked a new chapter of growth, with expanded services that now include:
- Refresh Design (a client favorite)
- Kitchen and Bathroom Renovations
- Living Room, Bedroom, and Dining Room Design
- Full Home Renovations
- Commercial and Hospitality Design
- Custom Window Treatments
- Paint Color Consultations
- E-commerce offerings and gift card packages
The Art of Collaboration
Patrina’s design process is rooted in professionalism, personalization, and collaboration. Each project begins with a consultation—either through a call or direct booking—followed by a detailed questionnaire and onsite visit. From there, she transforms ideas into thoughtful, functional, and visually compelling designs that align seamlessly with her clients’ lifestyles.
Her approach is deeply client-centered. Patrina listens with precision, approaching each project like a detective uncovering clues. By blending market trends, technology, and sustainability, she delivers solutions that are as practical as they are beautiful.
Projects That Inspire
Among her many accomplishments, two projects hold a special place in Patrina’s heart.
In 2022, she completed her first full-house renovation, transforming a one-bedroom cottage by adding a master bedroom and ensuite bathroom. The emotional response from the client remains unforgettable—and the project was later featured in The Bermudian Magazine (2023).
Another standout project involved redesigning a compact one-bedroom apartment. Faced with space constraints, Patrina made bold choices—closing a window to reconfigure the layout and introducing vibrant royal blue kitchen cabinetry with acrylic and nickel hardware. The result was a dramatic, visually striking transformation that proved thoughtful design can redefine any space.
Staying Ahead of Design Trends
To remain at the forefront of the industry, Patrina actively invests in continued learning. She regularly attends U.S. design markets and networking seminars, collaborates with local vendors, and engages with online design communities. This commitment ensures her work stays fresh, innovative, and relevant.
Empowering Women in Design
Patrina’s success reflects the evolving role of women in a once male-dominated industry. Beyond building her own brand, she has mentored three women, sharing industry insights and guiding them on client relationships and professional growth.
“Women are constantly evolving in this industry,” she says. Patrina advocates for mentorship, networking, and increased visibility for women at design expos and conferences.
Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
Patrina strongly believes in the importance of structure.
“Passion is essential, but you must frame it with a solid business plan,” she advises. She also encourages aspiring designers to start part-time while maintaining full-time employment to build financial stability, confidence, and a reliable client base.
Looking Ahead
As Carey Interior Designs approaches its 18th year, Patrina remains focused on refining her personal brand, expanding her portfolio, and embracing emerging technologies—including AI—while preserving the human touch that defines her work.
Sustainability remains central to her philosophy. She prioritizes reducing environmental impact, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing overall client well-being in every project.
Balancing Passion and Life
Running a successful business while maintaining personal balance is no small feat. Patrina achieves this by setting clear boundaries—making time for family, spiritual growth, and simple joys like walking her dog. This intentional balance allows her to remain creative, grounded, and fulfilled.
A Legacy of Inspiration
Patrina Carey’s journey is a powerful reminder that passion, paired with determination and resilience, leads to lasting success. Today, Carey Interior Designs stands as a reflection of her creativity, innovation, and client-centered excellence.
As Patrina aptly quotes Thomas Watson, Sr.:
“To be successful you have to have your heart in your business and your business in your heart.”
