The tube material undergoes plastic deformation during expansion to achieve permanent shape changes, while the tube sheet maintains its elastic behavior. This interaction creates radial pressure between the tube and the tube sheet wall, which forms a tight, pressure-resistant seal.

    The mechanical connection in power plants needs to withstand:

    • The pressure from high steam
    • The changes in size that result from temperature differences
    • The force from ongoing movements
    • The stress that occurs during operational cycles

    This expansion process needs proper execution because it creates fewer gaps while boosting vibration protection and extending material lifespan at the same time.

    • A hardened mandrel

    The rolling operation makes the rollers move outward from the mandrel center point to create an equal force that compresses the tube’s inner space. The tube expands because the outward force pushes the tube against the tube sheet hole in a uniform manner.

    • Small-diameter condenser tubes require tools that prevent internal scratching.
    • Boiler tubes in restricted spaces need compact expanders designed for limited access.
    • Roller angles need precise calibration to handle thin-walled or exotic alloy tubes without causing over-expansion or wall thinning.
